1980 KZ750. I'm tuning up the bike to sell her. When fine tuning do you tend to stay on the lean or rich side if you have a 4 into 1? I've got a colortune and set things more towards the lean side but she's not liking it, wanting to stall out if left sitting at idle at a light. I've never dealt with the 4 into 1's before. The carbs are jetted correctly for the pipes. Appreciate any advice.

Your refering to adjusting the mixture screws in particular I believe.

Set them with a good external tach or vacuum guage.
Basically looking for the plateau of highest rpm/vacuum between the drop offs when turning mix/air screws.
The plateaus could be about an entire turn, so just set them in the middle.

Sorry I fixed up my original post. I'm using my 'colortune' to fine tune the fuel mixture. I vacuum synched the carbs already using my 'carbtune'. Maybe I will recheck the synch job as well, she's running great but I can't get a smooooth idle. Pops here and there a bit and like I said when sitting at a light for too long she slowly starts to idle down and will eventually stall if you don't throttle up.

Whether selling or not... Always on the rich side if anything outside of dialed in... ;)

Don't know if you have all 3 Color-Tune adjustments... My shipment only had the one and I later found there's actually 3 adjustment procedures... ;)

In your case, assuming all other variables are good, based on Lead idle, Richen the pilots 1/8th to 1/4 turn should be close...

Ok, I'm getting frustrated. I think the carbs aren't pulling enough vacuum...maybe. Now I can't get 3/4 to even up with 1/2, or when I do have them lined up the bike is leaning toward stalling...arrrr. Just a walk through and maybe this will help figure out the error in my ways. It looks like my vacuum is supposed to be around 24. When I hook up the vacuum gauge it is low at 15 or so. I can increase this by screwing out the middle screw. I then balance 1/2, fine. but 3/4 are very low compared to 1/2 and I can't get them up.

Ditto. I always prefer just a smidgen on the rich side.

If popping at idle then thinking either air leaks or time to give those screw on the top front of your carbs another half turn and try again :)
