Serious Carb Problem was created by BIGD
I have just put a rebuild kit into my 4 carbs. Am quite sure that I have done this properly. I have done the 1 and 1/4 turn out on the pilot screw according to the manual. My bike is still having difficulty with idle going up and down. And while driving it, the idle does not return quickly when the throttle is released. I rebuilt the carbs to get rid of this problem, but it seems to be still there. Am I missing doing something? The throttle cable seems to be working, although it is very old. I have tried to adjust the idle screw, but this does not seem to help. Thanks BIGD

still sounds like you have a partil blockage in the pilot circuit somewhere sorry to say but those are perfect symptoms of bering to lean on the pilot if nothing else has been changed then i'd be pulling the carbs and spraying copious quanity's of carb cleaner followed by lots of air pressure thru all the passages again. always checking for proper flow thru them.

Sometimes best to use a single sdtrand from a steel brush and poke it down through the small pilot holes in the carb bores.

Taper the small straw that comes with the spray carb cleaner can, so it will poke into the pilot jet end and stay there.
Then, when your spraying cleaner through, have a look and make sure that all the tiny passages are flowing the same across all carbs.

GL!

Have completely removed carbs and parts, cleaned all holes with carb cleaner and then air dried and put back together and installed. Much improved and now able to ride it. I am still having trouble keeping the idle around 1000 and sounding smooth. Is this acceptable because of age, or can adjusting the vacuum screws make the final difference. Do not have gauges, but could take it to the shop or get my own set. Or is there something else I should try. All have been helpful so far. Thanks Don
