My bike was jetted for no baffle with the old pipe. I put on a brand new Vance Hines like yours and pulled the baffle and no blueing occured. I put the baffle in a few months later without thinking about jetting and the dreaded blueing started instantly. Thats what improper jetting will do to you. Yours look sweet with no blue yet. Keep an eye on the blueing at the head pipe

If it was jetted correctly for running with the baffle, removing it will make it run leaner. It will also make you hard of hearing when you are old like me.

If it was too rich before, maybe you lucked out and hit the sweet spot.

Believe it or not... removing a high performance baffle in some cases can deteriorate the effeciency of the engine, thus causing a slight "enrichening effect" at certain throttle inputs.

It might get leaner at idle and cause blueing of pipes, but move slightly richer at wide throttle openings, due to improper handling of turbulence and shockwave rebound in the system.

It changes the whole fuel map of the engine...

Use the baffle. It makes things quieter, and keeps everything running smooth throughout the entire throttle range.

And yes, cops do give tickets for having no baffle. If you roll through a downtown area, EVERYBODY will shoot you evil stares and think your an ass, not cool!

If you really need to have it a little louder, just pop another small hole in the end of the pipe, then test.
Again, you may feel a loss of power without re-jetting.

GL!

let me start by saying that I have a 76 kz 900 1015cc with no baffle, and no one has complained ,yet, no tickets, yet, I live in the country, and on a reservation but do visit the city also, anyway,The problem I was having a few weeks ago was surging at around 70mph,fixed that with a float adjustment, and moved the needle to the last spot (rich)but really didnt need to because it was a float problem the whole time, but since I moved the needles first I left them there and thought I would try it and see.that's where we are now ,running rich,so I liked the way the 900 sounded, pulled the baffle to see if it leaned her out a little, but really idled great,no power loss as a matter of fact faster than ever,90plus up hill into the wind,no prob with crosswind, due to the pods, other than the loudness,I wasnt aware of any of the other problems some of you guys are describing, with the engine and fuel and or throttle situations .so back to the question, will leaving the baffle out make it run a little leaner?or should I just put the needle back to where it was?

The answer is you have to check the plugs to see. If it's too lean they will be white.
