HELP!!!!!!!!! carburator desaperation times

I took my carbs off to clean them after the winter ...the bike would not start...put them back together and now gas overflow in all 4 carbs....the just will not hold gas in...took them apart a second time...clean them out woth compressed air and carefully pit them back ..and boom ..the same..gas overflow from the drains...so i did it a third time..and the same...what am i doing wrong.. i put a new "T" gas line in ..all i did different...does the needle seat have an "O" ring that i am missing. Does the needle sit snug.....When looking at the bowl with the cover off and assembled, when held upright as if on the bike the float is down as it should be while the needle slides out to contact the flot. I have not bent or touched the adjustments of the float....WHAT AM I MISSING.......HELP

ALL four carbs? They all function independantly, so it's got to be the floats... could they have been put on upside down?

it is a kawasaki (obviously) 1977 kz650 the inscription on the carb is MC MIKUNI KOGYO.....

But let me try to give some general advice.

The valve seat doesn't have an o-ring. They usually do have a washer that seals the outside of the seat to the carb body, and these are easily replaced if needed. It is more likely, however, that the needle tip will wear out first. You should remove the valve needle and inspect the tip. If it is worn, as shown below, it should be replaced.

Depending on the type of carbs you have, you should have no problem buying new needles, and possibly seats.

It is also possible that there is still a spec of dirt/contaminant lodged in the valve opening which is keeping the needle from seating fully. Make sure this is completely clear.

I think that bike came with VM24 carbs, which I'm not familiar with. We've got a lot of 650 guys here, though, and I'm sure one of them will chime in.

Or...

You could always get some carb rebuild kits and replace all the o-rings, gaskets, needles, and seats at once, just to be sure. ;)

As has already been suggested, if the Needle Valve is not shutting completely then fuel will fill and overflow the Float Bowl and the excess fuel will flow out the brass Overflow Pipe and down the black rubber Overflow Hose to the ground below.

Four causes come quickly to mind:
- 1) Flooded Floats... all four at the time is not likely.
- 2) Deteriorated Needle Seat condition... all four at the same time is possible I guess.
- 3) Fuel Service Level adjustment is too high... is a very popular fault cause.
- 4) Fuel Tank debris and junk preventing the Needle Valve Seat from sealing properly... is another popular fault cause.

Don't know how to get two pictures on the same post...

- You will need to get a Service Manual for your bike.
- You will need to do the Fuel Service Level adjustment using the Clear Tube Method only!

- Empty and clean your Fuel Tank.
- Clean and or replace your Petcock's Fuel Filter.
- Add or replace an Inline Fuel Filter (See below):

If in doubt about whether floats might be installed upside down, this diagram from kawasaki.com shows the float cut-a-ways on the "top."

But can't vouch for accuracy of the drawing. :unsure:
