i am working on my buddy's 1982 kawasaki spectrum 550 and i was wondering if i will have to remove the carbs in order to get the air box out of the way/// any advise will be very much apreciated thanks

1982 kz1000 ltd 4 into 1 vance and hines with baffle and pod filters. stock engine that was rebuilt but don't know at how many miles

If it is the same as my kz 1000 then yes you have to pull them.

Yep. Usually there are two bolt holes on the sides of the box that bolt into the battery box frame. Some may be different. But there is no room to pull it with the carbs on unless you break it up with a hammer (but you'll never use it again)
