If you want a really clean look, go for a pre-smog valve cover and do away with the valve. You can either run a hose between the nipples on the top of the current valve cover, cap them off, or machine plates to bolt onto the cover in place of the nipples. But you'll have a much cleaner look with an earlier valve cover. Got an extra one if you decide to go that route, just shoot me a pm or email at axton_kahler@yahoo.com.

Welcome friend.

The earlier valve cover is the way to go for sure.

FYI, if you're going with pods, you will have to make some serious mods to your carbs/setup.

Jetting for pods isn't horrible. Start by bumping your pilot to 17.5. Make sure you have adjustable needles in the slides. If the 80 doesn't have them you can use the needles from earlier carbs, I did with my 81 and she ran like a top. If you have stock exhaust (or equivalent) you should be somewhere around a 110 main. 4-1 or free flowing (no baffled) pipes you'll be around 115 on the main. Might have to buy a few different main jet sizes to get her dialed in, I had to run 117.5 mains on one of my 650s with pods and no baffle 4-1, but the up side is it's soooo easy to pull the carbs without the airbox in the way!

Rejetting is easy! Pull off the fuel bowels and all you need is a small flat head screwdriver. The pilot jet sits down inside a tube, main jet is right there. Order your jets from z1enterprises and you'll be good to go.

Pop in the 17.5 pilots and 112.5 mains to begin with. I'm pretty sure that's where you'll have to be. You'll know when you ride if they're correct or not. You'll be good on the bottom end, through mid range. If the bike starts breaking up once you hit over 6K your main jets are too small and need to go up another size.

Back to using an earlier valve cover answer, aren't there exhaust ports that go to the reed valves in the valve cover? if not i am going out to my bike and removing the stock valve cover and putting o the polished early cover i have laying around.
