i have a good set or more of28mm mikunis from my kz900/switched em out to 29's

i have a few good sets of j model cv/ carbs for jmodel 1000's

and i have these 28mm on the MK11 now, with the one second in from the left side, having a pump on the bowl...or somthing...i'm getting a manual for just MK11 coming soon and hope it covers emmisions/pumper carbs and such...

quick question...

does anyone how many turns out from loosely seated...my air mixture screws get set at -will be a base setting..starting point for 28 mm pumpers...1/4 =3/8 turn from just lightly seated...?

can i dis-assemble these and clean the idle circuits and bowls ,jets ect about the same difficulty as doing my 29 smoothies...

anything to watch for....

should i just switch to the cv's or my other 28 mm carbs and eliminate the asccelerator pump model carbs.....

thanks.....

i am gonna use this thread as my project thread and re-name it as i go....

today i eliminated the push side cable and lubed the pull cable as well as re-set the linkage to my personal settings...the throttle now pulls free and easy and snaps shut...i need to redo it to shorten the turn on the grip...it was sticking and gummy before though....

i also confirmed that my vacum/prime settings are flowing as described by a members trbl shoot tips...

still no electric start firing..just cranks away....bumped it and took it through some gears and it stays on trying to rev kinda when i try and idle, and then drops after a second or two and tries to die...runs off the choke once under way- once driving on throttle clean but holds a rev in gear changes...idle circuits..???

also saw that one coil is cracked on its body like a split top muffin...can't be good...,got lots of spare d=stock coils...probaly try and get some dyna's

got the bars and levers and throttle done this afternoon and added some bar ends- wheights, and just generaly poked and npeeked around the bike some........

can i just pop these 28's off and clean em or are they finicky and i should go to another sets/type of the extra sets of carbs i got?????

you could always do what roy does...ditch the pumper set-up and but some 26mm bowls on em....20/120 4th clip for pods and a pipe....

KZ900 has oem 26mm non-pumper Mikunis (manual slide), imo one of the most user friendly carbs around.

Later pumper carbs on manual slide Mikunis were designed for leaner operation to comply with strict EPA regs, and needed the pump for stumble-free transition off idle.

When maintained in perfect condition, the 28mm pumpers should perform okay. But I think less of them because of reported difficulty in keeping their tiny pump orifices clean.

Meanwhile, am well-satisfied with 29 smoothies on Yosh modifed Z1 and with oem 26mm on KZ900-B1 LTD (1015), and have never been tempted to replace either application.

If needed, here's a link to Z1E's carb section which includes some background and tuning info on the 26mm, 29's and others.

Good Fortune! :)

ok cool...i guess they will be cleaned and run...i gotta see what i have..4 sets laying around...i may block off the smog cam routes and eliminate the extra hoses...i like the idea of keeping the carbs and ditching the bowls if it will work...seems this thing may have motor work..still trying to determine...it pulls very hard and is a little warm too...thanks for the tips and links folks....

i nwas tempted to switch carbs and pipe from the 900 but that would not be fair to that project...oh well..smoothies anyone.....
