think I need jetting was created by bigD82kzltd
I have an 82 kz1000 ltd with a 4 into 1 vance and hines pipe with the baffle in it and I just put pod filters on it(not K & N) just regular dry pod filters. I am going to take the carbs off and clean them out this weekend. I am not sure what jets are already in the bs34's on the bike but if they are stock what size should I go with as a starter? I have read a lot of info on here and I think I am going to start with a 40/140 combo. I was looking at Z1 and their dynojet kit has air corrector jets with it. are these going to be a required change or can I just change out the jets themselves? It is my first time taking these carbs apart and I am looking for any newbie advice I can get from you guys. oh and the bike has 25000 miles on it. The engine was rebuilt but the guy I bought it from didnt know at how many miles. it had the stock airbox and a really old shitty air filter in it before I switched to the pods. the exhaust was already there so until I pull the carbs I don't know if it still has the original jets or not. I will update when I get them apart.

Thanks guys for whatever advice you got
David

If you will notice on the Dinojet sight, even their kits are designed to run with with an air box. On mine I did a lot more than what you are doing and I have stock pilot jets. Do not touch your pilot jets they do not have to be changed. I am running quite few horses with them. What ever fine adjustments you have to do to the lower end can be done with the needles. For the top end 135.0 is a good size. That is what I am running on my 1150 motor with large valves. I had to modify my carbs quite a bit to be able to use pod filters though. If they are not modified they will be very slow on opening for you when you give the engine throttle. I machined certain components installed custom needles and opened the pilot screws to 2 turns on the outside two carburetors and 1.875 turns on the inside two carburetors. Many guys make the mistake of just changing jets and they wind up with a very lean mid range, where you run the engine most of the time.

The DynoJet Kits are a good product that is very easy to install. I highly recommend them for persons who are not used to working with carburetion, as it requires alot of theory and practice to perfect. They are designed to be used with velocity stacks or high flow individual pod filters as you can read in the instrucions for your bike.

DynoJet instructions: Sorry bout the pic, its converted weird.

DAMN PICS - look below...

Your final jetting will ultimately depend on engine condition, altitude, and environment where the bike is ridden for the most part. This will be minor adjustment via the mixture screws, and main jet testing.

Good luck!

It pays to have a reputable shop with a dyno that has Air-Fuel-Ratio measuring equipment, and have them run/tune it.
Usually cost a couple hundred bucks.
