what stock carb jet size was created by terry s
I have a 1980 LTD 1000 and am going to attack my carb. again. When I had it apart last summer I couldn't find the jet size numbers on them. So I guess I will put new jets in. I have the stock jardines and the stock airbox on it. What jet size do you guys suggest? This bike is fouling plugs every 100 miles or so. The voltage on the coils was 11.3 and I just fixed that problem. I have my doudts if that was my problem.

The specifications for those carbs with all the jetting is in your maintenance manual. If they are 28mm like on the 1980 ST model than the stock jet size is 110 with 112.5 being the recommended alternate. If they are 26mm than the mains are most likely 105 or 107.5 But since you ride at only partial open throttle at most times the main jets have nothing to do with your fowling. You have other problems.

The voltage @ your coils is only really important while you're driving down the road... probly havn't tried that huh?
Old wiring and regulator/rectifiers can do strange things.

Make sure your compression is good.

The coils being at 11.* , can contribute to fouling with an old tired engine.
They should be at 13+ when running.

When all else fails, changing jets is ok, but exhaust the simple stuff first.
