Missing Pilot Screws for '80 KZ 650 E1 was created by chanman17
I'm missing the 4 pilot screws for this carb. The carb is off a '79 KZ 650. It has an accelerator pump.

I have extra screws (they have a pointed tip) from a '78 650 carb but they don't match.

Any suggestions on how I go about getting screws to fit this carb? Thanks.

I don't think you can just buy the air screws but an easier way would be (I'm looking now) to ebay a set of carbs for cheap which would give you air screws and a multitude of spare carb parts. All the carb kits (which include screws) for some reason are just made for 77-78 650's. Never seen a kit for 79-80 carbs like ours. :)

I found that out as well, the E model has the oddball Mikuni stepchild of these bikes. Only produced for a year and a half they are tweaked a bit for emissions (I think thats the difference anyways). I ened up giving my carbs to WG last spring. He may be the one to answer as to what parts can be used with the 80 model carbs.

Part # for the air screws is 16014-1004. These were the same used on 1976-77 KZ900, 1977-79 KZ650 (Air screw carb models), 1979 KZ1000, 1978 Z1R. Pretty much any air screw mikuni 4 cylinder carbs used the same air screws from 1976-79. In 1980 with the addition of the caps over the screws the change was made to 16014-1020.
Be sure on the carbs you have. Pilot screws are under the carbs used on some models, air screws are on top of the carbs used on some models. All pump carbs were air screw type. You can easily find a set of junk carbs or order the screws, but the 16014-1004 are $25 each or so.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

When I went looking for kits to rebuild my pumper carbs on my 1980 KZ650-F1, all I ever found were kits for standard carbs (pilot screws). I looked everywhere and all I ever found were 77-78 kits. I went to site after site after site and looked for almost two months and realized that I had to start with the older kits. I had to start with them (can use 80% of parts) I had to order separate bowel gaskets which had the opening for the squirters. Had to source "o" rings to seal the same. I have a collection of screws (from previous rebuild kits) and non of them will work. I don't know why they never released complete kits for these carbs. I think they thought that there were way more standard carbs out there and not worth it to make kits for the few pumper carbs. My screws do not use any "O" rings either and work fine but would like some new ones but am not gonna pay $25 a piece for them. I'm corrently looking for some '80 pumper carbs for cheap on ebay for extra parts. I do have a set of '78 carbs that I might rebuild and install on my F1 and just be done with the pumper thing! :)

From what I remember when I worked at the dealership, there were in fact very few of the pumper carbs on the bikes. Only a few of the KZ1000s came with them and a few more of the 650s.
