Lifes journey is not to arrive at the grave safely and in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, shouting ''Holy sh*t, what a ride!''
jetting was created by The_New_Kid
since the bike(83 KZ550 m1) ran I am going to pod filters, we have an after market header (brand unknown, although I believe it is a mac, 4-1 with chrome silencer) I need to know what filters to use (low $ please, not a whole lot of money for this project) and what jets to go to. I can't take it to a shop to get it done because I don't have the money for it. suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
oh, big question that I forgot, where can I get jets for this bike?

If you are going the economical route the Emgo pods are probably the cheapest. As for jetting the standard rule is go up 2 sizes for each mod (pods, exhaust, etc) that should get you in the ball park but usually more tweaking is required. I would get a good pic of the jets and see if Z1E can help you out. Maybe someone with a 550 that has done the mods can help on jetting. Good Luck
There is enough knowledge here to keep you from taking it to the shop as long as you do some research and want to get your hands dirty

well, I have no problems getting my hands dirty, one of the resons I wanted to go to pods is because all the rubber on the air box is brittle and it took me 2 hours to put the air box on last night, that was too long for me. if I should go up 2 sizes for every aftermarket thing then I should go up 4 sizes here? (pods and header)

the current jets are stock (120) after lookin around it looks like jet sizes go up in increments of five (120, 125, 130, 135, etc.) does that mean I would want to go to 140?

140 might be a little too big I would try 130's and see where you are at. I did not realize you were running Keihin carbs. The Mikuni carbs go in increments of 2.5 instead of the 5.

The guys a Z1enterprises will help you out and they are cheap and fast.
I just got a set of air filters from them. $31.00 i think.
Jets are not that expensive. Pilots about $2.75 and mains $1.60. Some where in that neighborhood.
They help sponsor this site.

I would take pics of the jets and give Z1E a call. Since they are not Mikuni carbs I do not know what fits what. If some 550 owners cold pipe in they might be able to help, but being New Years not many people at the computer tonight. I would hate to see you buy the wrong part and waste money that could be spent on other parts that you may need. Have you been to wiredgeorge's website he does nothing but carbs and might have some info on his forums. Just google wiredgeorge
