Lifes journey is not to arrive at the grave safely and in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, shouting ''Holy sh*t, what a ride!''

Well, I can't help with the ones going directly to the carbs, but there are some for the big emissions contraption above the engine. That thing should have one or two (usually two) small vac hoses going to the intake manifolds. Those two control the air-suction valve. It's a diaphragmin a metal case up on top of the motor. There will also be two half-inch hoses going from the air-suction valve to the valve-cover. There will also be a larger hose going all the way back to the airbox. Really, all that stuff can be removed as long as you plug all of the holes that had hoses connected. Don't throw it away in case you need it some day (unlikely). when that system gets defective, it usually results in a lot of backfiring through the exhaust.

Here's the '83KZ550 Spectre air cleaner diagram from kawasaki.com. Perhaps it might help.
