1075 10.5:1 pistons
Head rebuilt and probably mild port job
V&H megaphone with baffle
Air Pods
Dyna S with green coils
I won't be able to afford smoothbores. I'm torn between BS34's and VM28's. I had planned on running the stock VM26's for a while, but I may be able to squeeze enough money out for a different set. Can someone help me make up my mind? This bike won't be on the strip, I just want a strong street bike.
Thanks

That motor/setup can handle them easily.
Cheers.

I'm using a single outlet chrome petcock that I got from Z1E. It's not a pingle. It was an inexpensive one, but has worked fine for me.
I've read about problems with using BS34's with pods. Have you guys had any trouble? Also, what jets would you recommend?

if its a single outlet, you can probably turn it to avoid any problems if need be.....40/140 is a good place to start.....some people have had problems with pods and bs34's.....i had a high rpm stutter if i really whacked it.....ask otaker and buda.......they can give you a lot of insight as to running these carbs ....roy ran a set also...if you dont want to mod the bs34's, a nice clean set of 28 vm series jetted properly would get you in the ballpark.....i would venture 20 pilots and 120 main, needle 4th clipped would nt be bad.....just my .02...i m sure the more knowledgable will chime in as some already have.......

a lot of people really like the 34's but i like the instant throttle responce you get from the vm series carbs better.
when you might just be crusing along @ 60 mph with 34's, you have to downshift to get the venturies to open up.
they are vacuum operated.
this is just my opinion so it really don't mean anything.
i just like when i goose the throttle, my bike respondes.
i have vm's on my 650 and 34's on the 1100.
to each his own.
if i could get a set of 28's to fit the 1100 and the stock airbox, i would change them out in a second.
someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

Reasoning, unless mid range to WOT, the 34's won't respond at lower ranges like the 28's will...
Now, if your going to pay for carbs, let's say ~ $500 then save another $200 and go with the Keihin 29 or 31mm CR Specials...
From two different reliable sources, pending your riding style, 1075cc/performance cams/valve P&P or smaller go with the 29mm setup... 31mm maybe in your build but anything larger, why bother.
Low to Mid blows you away.... Pulls like a mo-foe.... Hell, nearly pulls me off the seat... It's crazy I tell ya....
Are they expensive, yes indeed but.... New technology, phenomenal performance, easy to jet... so you get what you pay for....
Just my worthless 2 cents worth....

If I go with the 28's, should I get ones with accelerator pumps or without?

I use 28's with pumps. I just remove the pump and use 26mm bowls. Roy

If you find a set of 28's without a pump they are going to cost you some big bucks.

Is it better to run the 28's without the pumps? If so, do I just removed the pump and swap my VM26 bowls over to the 28's?
