The spacing is different on all of those carbs. The KZ/ZN/Z 900/1000/1100 carbs from 1973-1985 interchange only. Why would you want to change. The BS34s are an excellent carburetor. I run them on my highly modified bike. You can find the complete description in the 1100 Gallery pictures.

every time i see a pic of that bike, i say to myself"damn, thats a sharp looking bike"......okay, back on topic.....

When you say that you "cleaned them out"; Did you remove all the components that are installed under the float bole plus the pilot screw, and than cleaned everything out? That is what must be done. It is actually quite simple to do this. It only takes a little time. It should take you about 1- 1.6 hours to do this.

Prolly a little late BUT...I have found the VM26SS carbs work nice on my 1980 LTD 1000 B4 (I was having a overheating issue from it running lean after the Dyna-S setup and Kerker installation). I confess I'm not familiar with the J model but you certainly have options. I was forced to consider different carbs since I broke mine.

Initially the carbs and filters were a nice addition but it still ran too lean. I have had mine off 4X to make minor adjustments and I think I nailed it this time. Just a 1/8th throttle works around town and it stays cool. OK...truth be told, an 8k clutch dump off a light rippin tire off through second makes me giggle like a school girl.

Hopefully you've found the right carbs for your manly bike. If not bring it up again here. I've always come away with a full brain and a better running scooter from this forum and some garage time.

Be safe, BUT don't forget to beat on it a bit too. Let the good times roll!

Peace,
Jay
