77 kz1000 stock carbs tuning was created by vict182
Hi all
I have a problem with a 1977 kz1000.
I have worked on a kz650 with vm24ss stock carbs and on a 1976 kz900 with vm26ss stock carbs too.
They both have the pilot adjusting screw at the bottom of the float bowl, and the air/fuel mixture adjusting screw on the side of each carb. I had the service manual so it was easy to understand how to tune up the carbs.
Now this 77kz1000 has vm26ss stock carbs but there isn't any air/fuel adjusting screw on the side! i had a look at the diagrams and it seems normal.
Since i have not the service manual for this bike (i could really use one but seems to be impossible to find on internet and on ebay too), could someone please tell me why they not have this screw and how is it supposed to tune up the air/fuel mixture on this carbs?
And i need another confirm: so 76 kz900 and 77 kz1000 have stock vm26ss carbs but they are different!
Many thanks

Because its a pilot fuel mixture screw on the engine side, it works the opposite of an air screw found on the filter side of the carb.
Pilot mixture screws: Out = more fuel mixture. In = less fuel mixture.
Air screws: Out = more air to mixture. In = less air to mixture.
Cheers.

Thanks a lot for your answers!
And forgive my bad english
So, i'm right when i say that:
77kz650 vm24ss have BOTH air screw on the side and pilot screw on the bottom
76kz900 vm26ss have BOTH air screw on the side and pilot screw on the bottom
77kz1000 vm26ss have ONLY pilot screw on the bottom

P.S. any suggestion about where to find a service manual for a 77 kz1000 will be very appreciated!

Here's a
Factory Service Manual
for a '77 KZ1000 LTD, it should work?

Nope
That is the supplement for the ltd model
Is a short manual that points out the differences of the ltd model compared to the main model
I'm looking for the main manual
thanks anyway

Hello,
Go back to the link on Ebay and check out the service manual from classicbikes in New Zealand it's the red manual and it will cover all the versions of your bike.
I have the one for the Kz650 and it is an exact reprint of the factory manual and it has a laminated cover to boot.
I think it's an excellent deal. Just like having a complete set of updates.
Best regards, Netcats
