77 C1 - Rebuilt Carbs:Now no fuel in #4 What the?

Guys:

Rebuilt the carbs (COMPLETE TEAR DOWN) yesterday because #2 cylinder was not firing. Rebuilt all 4 carbs. #2 was a mess internally and cleaned up well. Reinstalled the carbs on the bike and fired her up let her run for a few minutes and check the headers.

#4 was now ice cold. Pulled the drain plug on number 4 and not a drop of gas, the bowl was dry. Then removed the bowl to check to see if the needle and seat were working and everything appeared normal. Still no gas.

Anyone experience this before or have a solution or a possible way to tackel this problem? The other three carbs are working fine.

Thanks

you must have some very serious blockage on the supply side of the carbs i'd remove them pull out all the float valves and blow thru them with compressed air that should get rid of your problem.

Check to make sure the float isn't installed upside down.

The Floats are in the right way, I checked for the ware mark and made sure the tab was oriented in the right way. THe new needle and seat are working.

I will have to pull them back off of the bike and break them off of the rack it seems to determine why or if there is a blockage.

I have a compressor to blow through them, but I am sure that when I assembled them yesterday there were no blockages. I mean it would have to be one hell of a blockage wouldn't it? I sure as hell didn't put a cork in there.

Carbs are fun aren't they?

Anyone else have any ideas? I will post again tomorrow once I can get a better look at them.

Take the needle seat out and look and see if it's blocked underneath. very easy to miss this blockage.

Yes, remove carbs from bike but you don't need to remove from rack. If you have a manual, use a carb flow diagram and follow the fuel flow with carb spray, air, etc, until you find the blockage. The fuel flow into bowl is very simple so you should find problem quite easily. :) Also make sure float is NOT catching on something as bowl is installed. This will raise float and shut off fuel real quick! It happened to me once!

Well gents thank you for your reply's.
I got the bike purring like a kitten. Not bad for $400.00

The problem with the carb #4 not getting any fuel was that I rebuilt them in the wrong sequence. #3 & #4 were put on in the wrong order and as a result no fuel would flow because there is no passage way.
(HOW FREAKING STUPID!!) But this is my first time rebuilding the carbs so hell I figure I learned something.

After, I swaped out the carbs and reaseembled the carbs on the rack, which took about 25 mins,I used the wire method of bench syncing the carbs. That got the slide looking reasonably positioned. I threw them back onto the bike, which only took about 10 mins (I bought new boots at Z1). After buttoning her up I put the sync guage on and was amazed to see the carbs only slightly out and Number 1 was almost bang on the factory setting.

After another 10 mins or so the bike ran like a top and I had saved another KZ from the scrap yard.

Yukabodos Buddy!!!
