Running stock Jetting with Pods and 4 into 1 was created by vintagestyle7
This may be a really stupid question but I searched and came up with nada... I bought a 79 KZ650 B with a blown motor and did a motor swap from a 81 650 CSR and just finished rewiring it. The CSR carbs are on the CSR motor in the B frame with the Dyna III, Pods, and 4 into 1 originally on the B motor. I haven't cracked the carbs open on either yet and want to know if I will hurt the stock CSR motor running the Pods and 4 into 1 with stock jetting. I know it will be lean but enough to do damage? Perhaps I know my answer but I'm dying to ride!

The B motor had head work too so I'm sure there are bigger jets in those carbs but again, I haven't cracked them yet.

Thanks in advance!

Brian

If you're anxious to ride, why not just put the stock airbox on and save the pods until you have a couple months to spend tuning?

Frames are different from the CSR to the B so the CSR airbox doesn't fit. The B came with the pods and I don't have the originall airbox.

The CSR also came with all that EGR crap which I removed and capped the valve cover.

it will be lean but probably not enough to seriously wound anything but it will probably shoot ducks when ever you get on it hard so if you can live with that go for it and ride cool until you can get it figured out .

Thanks for the response Bomb. I have spent quite a bit of time rewiring everything and really want to ride. It's a 50 mile round trip to get my registration finalized as they won't issue me a title until they see the engine and frame numbers.

I'd rather ride the bike there than trailer it... B)

Thanks again!

Not sure I agree that that you'll be safe riding it without rejetting. To get perfect plug chops I had to increase jets from stock 102.5 mains 15 pilots to 115 mains and 17.5 pilots on stock 77b1 650 carbs with pods and 4-1. That's an aweful lean condition if you're running 102.5's with pods and 4-1, and 50 mile round trip could just be enough to do the old girl in running that lean, especially if you've still got toasty warm weather...

C'mom and stop being lazy. It'll take all of an hour to pull carbs and see what you have.

it's not a two stroke that we are talking about it may shoot ducks a bit but it won't burn itself to the ground especally if you don't go hard but your right it is real easy to rejet especally if you use some of the peoples past experiances on here it is amazing to me how many people so far apart and before a lot of this web info was spread around managed to get almost the same exact carb set-ups. oh and by the way i have never done a plug chop in mylife too many wierd additives in the fuels nowadays to get good consistent readings i always use an ega if want total accuracy. by the way you can pick old bear or marquet 2 gas ega's for around 200-400.00 they are obsolete in the car bussiness now. so they are just about giving them away.

Classic... thanks anarki I appreciate the insight. I've been riding 2 stroke dirt bikes my whole life and this is my first 4 stroke street machine. I've spent the last 4 + weekends swapping motors and getting the wiring done that I'm dying to ride. I've got a 4 year old son and 5 year old daughter, not to mention the old lady, waiting for me to switch back to them as the focus of my weekends.

OKC - wouldn't say that I'm lazy just spread a little thin...:P

And to Bounty's point... that's my stuggle.

I'll suck it up with a put around the block, trailer it to complete the registration and post pics soon. Thanks to all for taking the time. This site has really helped me so a big thank you to all for contributing to the content.

I'm sorry Brian, I don't know why I wrote that. I am not in a position to throw sticks at others; too many things in my garage need attention. Good luck with it.

No worries Kent and definitely appreciate your response. I took her for a put around the block a few times just to keep the smile on my face. I pulled the other carbs apart and sure enough 102 mains and 15 pilots so I'll be ordering 112 and 115 mains along with 17 pilots to begin trying to get my jetting down.

Anarki is in Omaha which is aprox. 1K feet. I'm pretty much at sea level but I'm hoping his recommendation gets me close.

Thanks again guys...
