83 kz1100 wont idle

I was given an 83 1100 shaft it of course did not run and was apart. My question is i have been told several different things in regards to the air box.Some say it will not run without it some asy it will some say run filter pods without rejet some say dont.it came with a 4 to 1 kerker that has no baffle so some rejetting has been done but who knows what. Oh if i put air box back in does it need filter also or not.

there has to be a filter or you will be rebuilding the motor. dirt is a very bad thing in the cylinder. most here will say stock airbox is far easier to tune and unless you have the knowledge to tune one with pods leave it stock. put a k&n stock type filter in if you want better performance. no ait filter at all will affect idle.

lets start from scratch will your bike start and idle by itself now or do you have to use the enrichner(choke) to keep it idling.
