carb bowl was created by michigans
i have a kz1000, three of the bowls have a small clip with a pin on the outer edge but the other does not (carb 4 i believe). should there be a pin and clip on this one also? looked in books and do not see this clip and pin anywhere on diagrams. this is where the gas lines connect each carb and come into the bowl

no camera not here right now. there is a small bearing type ball and about an 1/8" long rod x 1/16"long which is held in place by the clip. also been doing lots of research today and found out these are 26mm carbs.

Maybe looking on BuyKawasaki.com under parts diagrams would help?

From your description, it sounds like the check valve for the accelerator pump. If so , all 4 will need the ball, small brass rod thing and the small spring clips. The spring clips can be made from the spring from a ball point pen. The accelerator pump rebuild kit only comes with 1 clip. 1 ball and 1 brass thing.
The accelerator pump carbs will have a lever attached to the throttle cam to the bottom of 1 carb and the float bowls will have small hoses connecting the bowls together.

Yes, all 4 bowls will need the ball, brass thing and spring to run correctly. If the springs (clips) are not present, the brass thing can be pushed up and block the fuel from getting into the carb when the accel pump is used.
