I have a slight problem. my 76 does something odd, it runs fine no missing, popping or anything funny. when its cold it idles perfect. But once it warms up the idle raises slightly, and in the first quarter or so of throttle it has hesitation when i am stopped at light or something and i give it a quick rev.But taking off it doesnt miss a step, it pulls away smoothly.I also notice the hesitation when im in traffic stuck behind a slo-poke and completely let off the throttle, when i roll it back on it hesitates and jerks till i get past that first quarter or so. other than that once warm the bike runs perfect all the way up in revs. would that be a pilot problem or a needle setting problem. And also every now and again the idle drops to tha point of dying, but one quick blip of the throttle brings it rite back up,and it holds there. The bike has the stock carbs(vm26) i dont know the exact jetting.

sounds like a fuel screw setting also is it the stock air box or pod's try to make sure all of your fuel screws are about 1 1/2 turns out start there. if the idle picks up a bit when it warms up that's pretty normalwhat your experiancing is a lean condition if getting all of your fuel screw settings even doesn't help the you may have to raise your needle position by one clip position.

Im running pods. If i go in and raise the needle position i would have to readjust my air screws and re-sync the slides wouldnt i?

the air screws control between idle and 1/8 throttle openng the the needle controls 1/8 to about 3/4 throttle opening there is some over lap as far as reseting the fuel screws give the bike what it want's to me the way you have described your problem it's telling me that it is lean as far as having to re-sync the carbs your not changing slide position just needle if the sync was good it still should be good after the changes.also if your using pods have you richened up your main jets as well if not try going about 3-4 sizes bigger on those as well.
