i have a chance to pick up a 73-75 air box for a kz 900. will this fit the 76-77 kz 900?

Wired George uses one on his test bikes because they are easier to remove.

They will fit, but you need to fabricate a bracket to hold up the airbox. The Z1 has a forked stay that attaches to the battery box.

You would need to fabricate something like this. If you don't, you've the weight of the airbox and carbs stressing the card holders.

or he could just save him self a bunch of grief and buy the one that you guy's have for sale ,right jeff.

It would still take some work to get the Z1 version to fit on the KZ. Kawasaki shifted the position of the battery box on the KZ, so it's not something you can just use the Z1 airbox stay on.

thanks guys. i'm just looking for an air box that will work. just picked up some 29mm carbs off a '79 st 1000. i was wondering though, are they considered to be smooth bore carbs? what is the big deal about smooth bore anyway? dont know the difference between stock carbs and different ones.

See how the 76 air box, hits the side covers. The older models don't touch the side covers.
