Poping is usually the valves out of adjustment. Although a cold motor will pop until it is warmed up.

If it is popping when you chop the throttle your pilots might be too small. Turn your air screw in and see if that helps. Roy

10 minutes of running... You're no longer cold!

"I still have some poping going on"...
Where exactly is this occurring?

Meaning at idle runs erratic and pops, when running in low to mid range pr when accelerating it pops or more specifically when releasing the throttle and when it snaps back it pops.... Pops out carbs or exhaust during these operations....

At idle, is it popping out the carbs especially cylinder 1?

As Roy mentioned, for idle turn your air screws for more rich operations.

Also, are you still running this exhaust without a baffle?

And of course, sync the damn carbs already will ya...:P

The extra power means you're on the right track and maybe finished with part of the jetting.

I'd do the following:

1) if you for whatever reason had to install a new larger main jet to get the 'extra power' (for example, maybe you installed a 4-into-1 pipe, and/or replaced the stock air box with individual 'pod-style' filters on each carb) -- if you installed a new larger main jet to get that extra power -- you need to adjust the needle clip to raise the needle a notch and you also need to install a larger pilot jet.

2) CHECK THE TIMING. If you have points, check for pitting of the points, check for correct gap on the points (I believe the gap is 3-4mm, but check that in the manual). After you check the points gap, using a timing light (decent t. light can be had at Kragen for $40) and the timing marks on the ignition end of the motor make sure the timing of the points opening is correct. NEED A SHOP MANUAL to do it right.

3) Check your spark plugs. Is the gap correct? Check the spec for the plug gap in the manual. Are the plugs old? THEY'RE CHEAP, buy a new set of 4 for $12.

But if you needed to go to larger main jets, you need to look at the needle clip and pilot as above.

Good luck, sounds like you're really close!

Ok here's the whole run down...
When i take off and I am running in the mid range it will pop, and it's coming off of 2,3, but they all pop at some point in time..when i take the throttle off, and right back on.. I am still running strait headers for now...no baffle. I am getting an exhaust headers that I can retrofit to a sports exhuast from MAC in the winter. And yes i need to still sync. I am going to do the needles and jets in the winter..

What size jets are you running with that open header?

Do you need a Mac header? I have the header part but not the baffle end. I'll give you a good deal.;) Roy

I PMed you roy-b.

But I am running 140's and I should be running a 52.5 needle jet, but I am not...Granted this is from running 120 mains.
