If I remember right, you need to have a shutoff valve in your tubes. Have the valves shut off when you start the bike, and open them up once you've got it idling. It seems like someone was saying that starting it up with the tubes hooked up will just cause the fluid to get sucked into the engine.

I may or may not build a manometer similar to yours, so I may have to deal with this problem too!
