A question about fuel tank venting was created by Ironhorse
While working one the KZ1000 Police Bikes I noticed the two vent hoses that attach to the bottom. A small one near the rear of the tank, and a larger one near the fuel gauge. Both run straight down and dangle under the bike. My '78 LTD never had those.
Are those drains or vents? Is that where the fuel runs out of when the bikes get dumped over? I ask because each time a bike gets dumped it spills gas all over the range. It can be a nuisance to have fuel spill in an exercise riders are working on.
I am tempted to plug the lines to keep the gas from spilling out. Would that cause any performance problems?
Thanks
Mark

One is an overflow, and the other is a vent to the hinged part of the gas cap. You can plug off the overflow, but not the tank cap vent, or you could get fuel starvation.
