I just inherited a KX750-N1 Spectre. The air box is missing the air filter and associated parts. In place of the filter is some sort of plastic lid that fits the air box. There is a central hole cut in the lid with a radius of approximately 1/4 the diameter of the lid. Astonishing, the bike runs. It idles semi-smoothly at about 1400 rpm, but gets pretty ruff at 1100 rpm. I have searched for replacement parts, but the dealer can't get them and I can't find them on eBay. What would you recommend I do? Pods? Has anyone here ever heard of using this punched out lid solution? I’m thinking lean…..

You can probably use an airbox from an 80-83 KZ750-Ltd-4, 80-82 KZ750-E Standard or 81-83 KZ650-CSR, among others. The cross-reference at Kawasaki.com will show that some bikes use the exact same airbox, but the airboxes from the bikes mentioned would be more readily available & will only have minor differences.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it. I have the airbox, I just don't have any of the parts to mount the filter. I'm going to check some salvage yards this weekend. I still find it strange that it runs so well with that lid.
