KZ 440 1981 Slow to come back to idle was created by tygoebel
Recently got a KZ 440. I have removed and cleaned the carbs.
I am pretty sure that every thing is back in the bike and installed correctly. The bike starts and runs pretty good except that it takes 10 or more seconds to come back to an idle. When I ride the bike and have to come to a stop (stop sign ect) the bike continues at 3000+ rpms and slowly makes it down to 1200 rpms.
Second question - What is the the correct setting for the piot screws?
Third question - Is it important to plug the top of the idle screw opening as it states in the repair manuel?
Thanks to any one that can give a suggestion to my problems

With both my 440 and 750, any time I had issues with the idle speeding away or slow to return to idle, it was an air leak issue, either I forgot to plug a vacuum pork, the plug was leaking, or the carb holder had a leak.
Not sure about the pilot screw setting, but I've had my plugs off for over a year without any trouble.

Spring on carb
There is a very strong spring that returns the butteryfly valves to the closed positions

If not already done, would assure advancer is properly functioning by quickly moving back and forth as rpm's are varied by blipping throttle.
Using a strobe type timing light, watch the advancer in actual operation.
Sometimes the advancer gets sticky and gunked up whereby it fails to readily return to idle position. Might need lubing, or maybe removal and cleaning. I prefer moly grease for lubing, but oil may suffice temporarily.
Good Luck!
