Anyone with a similar situation? was created by Royal1MC
I'm having a issue with my gas tank. I can ride locally with no problem, but on the highway after a few miles the bike spudders and pops. I check the gas line and no fuel was in the line to the carbs. I opened the gas lid and the fuel flowed into the carbs. Is this a petcock or gas lid issue?

It's a tank vent problem for sure.

Like Johnj said.
The Gas Cap has two seemingly contradictory functions.
First is to seal the tank so that gas does not get on your paint job and the easily sourced and replaceable flat rubber seal does that.
Second is to vent the tank so that air can get in to replace the volume of the fuel being feed to your carbs.
I've never fixed a Gas Cap vent problem so others will have to tell you how they solved this problem. However, two solutions seem obvious. One is to change the Gas Cap which is a little extreme and the most expensive unless you happen to have a donor bike. The other is to disassemble the Gas Cap and clean out the rust/crud... but, as I said, I've never had to do this... not even sure if can be disassembled, for that matter.
Hope this helps.
Best of success.
Bill

I can't speak for every flavor gascap, but the one on the KZ650C1 is very easy to disassemble and reassemble. Just be sure to note the position of the little parts inside. Ed
