ZX600 carbs on a KZ1000? was created by madbikebreaker
I know this may kinda far out there, but is there any reasonable method to bolt a good set of 1986 ZX600 carbs to a 1980 KZ1000? I bought this ninja so I can use the front end. Also how about the coils?

Those are the same junk Keihins that my brother has on his 91 Zephyr. They are cantankerous to say the least. They have the same spacing as the KZ550. You are looking at a lot of tinkering. However, if you want to mount them on your bike, it is actually quite easy. All you have to do is get a set of mounting boots for the 91 Zephyr (ZR750) and they will bring the spacing to the dimensions you want. You may just try and use the boots from your Ninja. They might be the same as the Zephyr boots.

Please post results. I've got a couple of sets of these/those carbs kicking around and would like to hear.

ZX600's stayed on the road for many years so the carbs can't be too bad.

IIRC ZX600 has electronic ignition so coils should work but I'd check the primary resistance first.

I had a 1985 Ninja 600 for several years and never had any trouble with the carbs. I rejetted them after drilling the airbox and installing a K&N filter, and it really woke the bike up. They were pretty lean from the factory.

The coils on the KZ are 2.2ohm and the ninja coils are coming up as 3.4ohm. If I keep the resistor will I burn up the CDI?

With or without the resistor, your spark would be very week with the 3.4 ohm coils. your output voltage would be only 66% as strong as with your stock coils.

What resistor? Is it in series with the coils? I only have an 81/82 manual here at the house. You are not gonna hurt CDI with higher resistance coils. However...Older CDI may be inefficient owing to aging of the capacitor and a reduction in energy storage capacity. If this is the case, even perfect OEM coils transported from the past by time machine will not improve things. Do you have the ZX ignition electronics?

Are you sure you have CDI?
