Interesting holes in float was created by moneypit
I noticed while setting float height on 29mm smoothies and one float has about 6 holes in it. I figured I coukd solder it. Will this affect it in any way.

Looks like avery nice soldering job.
I dont know anything about carbs for the 900 but if it were in my 750 I would just set it so the fuel level in the float bowl was about 4 or 5 mm below the top of the bowl. i.e where it was supposed to be.

Service floatbowl fuel levels below edge of carb body per FSM for oem carbs on the large fours are:

'73Z1~'76KZ900 @ 2.5 +/- 4.5 mm (.10~.18 inch, about 1/8")

'77KZ1000~'78KZ1000 @ 3 +/- 1 mm (2~4 mm)

'79 KZ1000 @ 4 +/- 1 mm (3~5 mm)

Sudco (Mikuni) 4th edition's info about 29 smoothbore doesn't show the float level specs (at least not that I can find) :( . Seems like Sudco should have provided such info in its otherwise excellent manual. Nor is it shown in Z1E's carb i.d. section.

Lacking better information, I arbitrarily settled on 2~4 mm, which has proved very satisfactory for the Yoshi modified 1973 Z1 in combination with other existing jetting and settings.

Perhaps somewhere out there is Word from the Mountain about recommended range for service floatbowl fuel level in Mikuni 29mm smoothbores.

Same question was addressed in this earlier KZR forum thread > ?? Smooth bore float level ?? .

So the great mystery continues.

Meanwhile, I'll happily defer to JR's advice of about 4 or 5 mm below the top of the bowl :cheer: (which am wild guessing might also be the factory specs for an oem 750 CV carb).

Good Luck! :)
