What should the slides height be when bench syncing them right now they are 1.5mm which is probably way to high and
how high should the float level be with the clear tube method

I believe the gap sould be about 1/16 inch with the thumb idle adjuster near the middle of its range. Fuel level about 2mm below carb body. I'm sure these things have been discussed before around here. If you spend some time with the search function you may uncover all sorts of useful nuggets.

KZ650 Bench / Static Slide Carburetor Sync

• 1) Remove the carburetors from the bike and position them in a stable work area, so that they are level and do not move around. I use a Work Bench Vice..
• 2) Remove the idle adjusting screw. Remove the tops off each carburetor. This requires the removal of the 3 screws and may require a tap / hit with a plastic mallet or a plastic screwdriver handle on the side of the carburetor top.

• 3) Rotate the throttle bell crank in order to raise the throttle slides.
• 4) Position a drill bit, from the engine side of the carburetor, under each throttle slide. The size of the drill bit should be around 1/4" to 3/8" diameter. (similar size straight wire from a metal coat hanger could be used instead).
• 5) Lower the slides down so that the rest on top of the drill bits.

• 6) Ensure that the throttle return spring is in place.
• 7) Loosen the lock nut and adjust the slide bell crank arm adjusting screw so that there is equal pressure on each drill bit. This is determined by the 'feel" of the drag or friction as each drill bit is moved slowly in and out under the slide.

• 8) When the drag / friction is the same, hold the slide bell crank screw and tighten the locknut. NOTE: make sure that the screw does not rotate / move while you tighten the lock nut
• 9) Refit the carburetor tops and the idle adjusting screw
• 10) Refit carburetors to the bike.

The above was shamelessly stolen from a previous thread.
