82 KZ550 A2 carb tuning...help? was created by 550A2
I had the carbs syncronised, it did give it more power, but it still idles rough, and i cant seem to make the right carb adjustment to fix it.

Ive read through the owners manual, and it says turn all the screws in all the way then out 2 1/2 turns. thats what i did. nothing changed.

Any suggestions?

I have my TK22 carburetors pilot screws set at 1 3/8 turns. If you have TK22's, 2 1/2 turns is likely too much. Between 1 1/4-1 1/2 should be just about right. Look and listen for any possible vacuum leaks.

Yeah, I'm not sure which manual you are using, but 2-1/2 turns out is too much on the air screws. Like GPz550D1 says, it should be about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2. The factory manual says 1-3/8 +/- 1/4.

From the photo (very nice looking bike, by the way) it looks like your bike is stock. If the mixture screws don't fix it, there are many things that can cause a rough idle.

If the bike is new to you, start with a compression test and you may want to check the valve lifter clearance. From there, check the timing and ignition. Verify the advance is working with a timing light. The light will also show if you are getting misfires.

Then start on carbs.

Its pretty much stock, i got a 4-1 header, a ngk coil pack and i removed the pcv valve system.

I replaced all the top end gaskets a week ago, i measured the valve clearance and its within spec.
ive checked the ignition timing too and its spot on.

thats what i thought the problem was.

ill mess around with the screws, see if i cant dial it in.

Thanks.
