Only thing I recall was drilling more holes into the air box cap's lower portion to allow more air flow. Is this the one?
While on the subject of allowing more air flow into the box; If the retangular plastic piece that sits just towards the front of the Air Box Cap were removed, would that allow more air to enter the air box?

I remember reading one about a guy using 1 1/2" pool tubing in his box and deleting the cursed hella hard rubber.
Whoa - I think that's me. I was wondering what you meant when I first saw this thread...
Do you mean these?

If I recall correctly, it looked like clear tube with the fiberglass threads in it, and they clamped on the carb intake and were just shoved into the airbox holes, which had to be enlarged a bit. It seemed like a pretty cheap and effective way to get around the hard boot problems we sometimes have.
I found the thread in the archives and the pic is still up! It's called 'boot pain' and a guy named 2fastkawman did it.

I could not get mine to soften at all, used gas trany fluid vasoline ect. even boiling they wouldn't stay soft long enough. Nothing worked so I went to Home Depot and bought 12" of 2" reinforced pool tubing. Heated the ends in boiling water then put it on a bottel with the same size mouth as my carbs and cooled it with cold water. The air box side was just the right size to fit through the holes snugly.
Total cost $2.50
