What is a good carb to replace my BS34s? I want to try something simpler than the BS34s but I dont want to pay a mint for a set.

Simpler that BS34´s

They don´t get much simpler, do they? I mean adjusting mechanical flat- or roundslides is more complicated and ad in acc. pumps...

Z1000R ´83...Slightly modified...

I 100% agree nothing much better. Once I went to BS34s I would only change to fuel injection. Manual carburetors are much more difficult to work with, and in comparison to BS34s very unforgiving. I run BS34s on a stock 81 kz1000 motor and I can get the wheel off the ground while shifting from first to second. Engine is stock, carburetors have been modified to be able to run with pod filters.

Looking to hang on to your BS34's too?

I have a set of VM26's on the bike I'm riding now, with new manifolds and new pods. No accel pumps. Pretty straightforward.

Is that the kind of carb your looking for? I'll trade ya!

Ill start with I dont know much about carbs. So what your saying is I cant do much better than what Ive got. Ive got a flat spot from 6 to 7000 rpm, at 7000 it just screams and it has enough low end to pull the front wheel roling in first gear. Where do I start to get rid of the flat spot?

I would be willing to bet that you are running pods on a stock set of carbs. This being said, I can say that the carbs must be modified to be able to handle the pods. This requires some minor machining, new needles, and rejeting. I had the exact same problem with mine until the modifications were done. These can cost anywhere from $300 to $650 dependent on who performs them for you.

Ive already spent almost $400 on them, being rebuilt and jetted for the pods another $300 that is alot of money on one set of carbs.

Than the person who did the work should be responsible for the proper operation. Did they replace the needles on them?

The biggest problem is when people do not know what they are doing and over jet the top end and neglect the mid range. This is a very common problem. Anyone we know, do the work?

A well set up set of BS34s should be as good as a set of well set up set of 31mm Smooth bores.
