81' KZ650 CSR petcock and idle issue

I was previously posting in another section as I had brake issues, but now need some help with my petcock and idling issue, hopefully the great people on this board are able to help me:

1) Leaking petock: I have changed all the seals and gaskets included with my rebuild but it's still leaking. I still can't figure out from where exactly, but it seems form the are where the back and front piece come together. I noticed that the lever on the front was difficult to turn, I maybe had to oil the gasket on the lever a bit, but didn't do it when rebuilding. When I disassembled the petcock, all the gaskets including the thin one seemed to be seated correctly. What are my options now and how do I go about finding out which petcocks will work for this bike?

2) I can't get the bike to idle normally. The guy I got the bike from said he cleaned out the carbs but the issue I'm having now is that the bike will randomly go to really high idle. Basically while trying to get it to warm up, every minute or so it will randomly start idling very high, I then turn down the choke a bit and it seems to be very touchy as it's difficult to get it to stablize at all. It isn't a gradual increase, rather will just start going up very quickly. I was thinking this could be related to the leaking petcock, but seemed unlikely.

I have tried using the search function, but for some reason can't see anything other than the first page of the results.

the high idle problem is usally caused by leaking intake boots on the engine side if the problem is worse the longer the engine runs that would be one of the first places to look spray carb cleaner or break cleaner or even water around the boots and you will find the problem pretty quickly. if the petcok doesnt turn easily then i hate to tell you but you have installed the kit wrong and don't put any oil or anything on the seals and orings in the kit as it can cause them to swell making the problem even worse.

What rebuild kit?

What's the condition of the petcock?

I purchased the rebuild kit from z1, the petcock it self seems fine and from what I can tell there is no damage. It seemed like I installed the rebuild correctly and all the seals/gaskets I replaced were identical, but I will check it out again. Thanks for the suggestions.

I looked at the replacement petcocks on z1, but I can't seem to figure out if any fit my bike, from what I can tell neither of those work.

Can you tell exactly where it's leaking? Although K&L parts are very good, I'll suggest replacing that o-ring or gasket w one from the dealer. I rebuilt the one on my CSR w a K&L kit several years ago w no issues. I cleaned the petcock first, then buffed the mating surfaces w brass wool as a just in case - it was in excellent condition w no piting or gouges or anything.

As for a replacement fuel valve, the bolt hole center-to-center spacing on the 650-CSR is 34mm (the earlier 650 spacing is 44mm). Check Z1 to see if there's a Suzuki aftermarket unit with the correct spacing. Or whatever else might work.

sorry for the long delay in the update, I've been studying for a major exam and finally got around to working on it.

- I put the petcock back together and for whatever reason, it is no longer leaking

- The rpm issue might have been due to a bad fuel line or the petcock, as it idles fine now. I tried spraying carb cleaner around the boots and nothing. That and the fact that its idling okay, tells me it might have been a fuel issue.

Thanks for all the help, it's almost ready to run, but ran into a snag with the wheel, will post in correct forum though.
