KZ1300 fouling plugs on 1 & 2...runnin' like crap!

Was running fine for quite sometime. Noticed it was running a little rough and popping through the exhaust.

Pulled all the plugs everything looked good except 1 & 2. Cleaned them and moved them to other cylinders and went for a ride. The new plugs in 1 & 2 were fouled again?

I am thinking weak spark on those 2 I guess? It looks like they are on different coils so I am thinking plug wires? I don't know?

I would suspect the carburetor since those cylinders share a float bole. The 1300 is notorious for coil cracking, but I would suspect a bad coil only if it was 1&6 or 2&5 or 3&4.

I'm thinking ignition since the new plugs had fluffy black soot on them? What's the chances of having to bad coils?

the 2 cylenders do not share a coil so i would not expect that to be it the fluffy black soot usualy indicates low compression check compression ill bet its going to be there. poor valve adjustment would be the most likly cause id start there

I think the GM coil packs for a Buick would work.

I have 125 lbs. compression on all 6 cylinders. I think the chances of bad coils are slim but it's an upgrade I want to do soon. What are the chances of carb problems and what would I be looking for?

pretty sure they share a float possible you have an issue there maybe a needle valve or something of that nature

Perhaps floatbowl fuel level is too high.

Good Luck! :)

I do not like the GM coil pack. The spark is kind of lame. I bought NOLOGY Mini coils for mine. You will know if the coils are bad because on the 1300 they crack really badly. Because of which two cylinders are running badly, I would suspect the carburetors. If it was the coils, you would smell raw gas out of the exhaust. It is very simple to check if it is the coils. Unplug the plugs which are fowling, install a spare spark plug and start the bike. You will see right away if they are firing. Do one at a time.

I'm with otakar on coil packs, they're just not a good fit electronically.

I tried it for a few rides but soon became concerned for the electronics since the resistance is so different from stock. Typically .8 OHMS

I wrote an article about it here: CoilPacs

I have two 1300's, one injected and one carburated, and both of them tend to run rich on #'s 1 & 2. I'm resigned that it's caused by setting on the side stand. The 1300 carbs have a metal to metal seal in the float valve which always weeps.

I try to remember to shut off the fuel about a mile out and drain the bowls if I forget.

I recently fired up my injected 1300 and ended up living with gasoline fumes for the next three days in the shop as the pressure drained off. I'm sure that the # 1 & 2 cylinders are soaked because of the dribbling through the injectors. I'm going to add a pressure bleed off line between the manifold and the tank return line with a little valve in it so that I can just dump the pressure when I shut it down.

Even WITH the ballast resistor they only measure out at 3.4 Ohms. That IS A BIT DANGEROUS for the IC unit. I did not want to risk it and went with the prescribed NOLOGY coils. They are the PFC-30D "Profire" coils Part # 152 051 350 and I also bought the "HotWires" part # 012 076 001 for the bike. What is sweet about the coils is there size. They are about half the size of a regular coil. What I find very interesting about the coils is unlike everything els today being made in China or in that area of the world, They are made in Germany.
