Petcock problem was created by storysunfolding
I don't know if I put my tank back on wrong, but my petcock isn't clearing the top of my carbs. I can't switch it from on to reserve without having to scrap it over. Am I missing something that keeps the tank higher?

There is actually a rubber cushion that goes right where the three stems come together right before you bolt on the gas tank, if you are missing that, then that would explain why your tank is sitting low. That is atleast on 80' KZ, so not sure if that holds true for every year.

I have a pair of rubber cushions that go on each side of the frame under my tank on the 95 KZ1000 that keep the tank off the metal and raise it up a tad.

I think that peachc is correct on this one. There should be three cushions for your tank, the two on either side of the frame near the forks and one near where your petcock is. It is rounded and fits in the channel of your tank to give you the extra lift to keep the petcock off of the carbs.

I have the two that the C hooks on either side of the tank slide into. I have one near the top of the tank and another cushion down by where the mounting bolt screws into the frame. Still no luck.
