82 KZ550 Jetting Question was created by mushroom_toy
Alright guys got a quick question for ya. I have an 82 KZ550 pretty much stock only thing different is foam pod filters, and ngk plug wires. I noticed about a week after I put the filters on that it was sucking in way too much air and that Id need to probably go ahead and rejet. Ive been riding with the choke on a bit but id love to be able to run no choke and have a full powerband again. So i guess the question is what jets should I go with or is there a jet kit I should go with? I have seen the Dynojet kits stage 1 and figured that might be right but I dont know and was wondering if there is something cheaper. I have the flat top carbs not the diaphram type. Thanks in advance.

your carbs are the mechanical slide type the dyno jet kits are for c.v carb's [ vacuam operated slide] so that kit would not work for yours anyway so you will be saving money what i would do is change your main jets to about 4 sizes bigger than they are now and see if that changes how the engine runs.

You have the TeiKei TK22 carbs which are the same as on the A standard model (except the last year of the A) and the same as the 81 D gpz model.

The Dynojet kit for those carbs are kit number 2305.
They will come with 98 mains which may be a touch too big. You probably want 94 or 96. It will also come with nice adjustable needles.

If you want to go cheap, just drill your mains to 96 and get rebuild kits which include new 92 mains and adjustable versions of you existing needles. (Plus a whole lot of other parts you may need).

K&L rebuild kit 18-2462 comes with Y77 needle which is same as the 4D93 needle (which is the adjustable version of your needle) and second clip from top matches the 4D92 needle which is your stock, non-adjustable needle. It also comes with main and pilot jets almost identical to stock TK parts.

Here is a small chart showing the baselines on different bikes using the TK22/21 carbs.
Your original settings were the same as the 1980 C1 model.
