Here is a noob question,
How big does a puddle under the airbox drain need to be to be a problem. I had one about 6 inches across after I started the bike after about a 15 min break. I geuss I should do a sniff test.
Is any size puddle normal or do need to start tearing apart the carbs again? I'll get a picture next time and post it.

Thnaks in advance

check your oil level and give the oil a sniff it sounds like you might have needle and seat problems.

Looks like I'm doing the carbs on Saturday. Damn, I wanted to ride all weekend.

Thanks.

If not already done, be sure to install fresh in-line fuel filter. Where dual fuel lines are fitted (from petcock to dual carb fuel intakes), use a separate inline filter on each line. All before allowing any fuel whatsoever into the freshly cleaned carbs.

And of course also change the oil and filter. Consider temporarily removing the S-shaped rubber tube connecting crankcase breather to bottom of airbox until certain of having the carb fuel overflow resolved.

Also concentrate on cleaning the carb floatbowl overflow circuit, where applicable, because properly functioning overflow circuit should allow excess fuel to escape from the nipple outlets on bottom of floatbowl before the excess fuel has a chance to keep rising on up into the carb and back to the airbox (and forward to the combustion chamber to run down around the pistons into the crankcase.)

After carb reassembly, while still on the bench, would perform clear plastic tube test to assure correct fuel level in floatbowls.

Good Luck! :)

There should be no puddle, and the inside of the airbox should remain dry except for possibly a light oil mist in the bottom. Is the puddle gas or oil? It's possible if you overfilled the oil level that the excess could be pushed out through the breather into the airbox, but excess gas from leaking float valves should run out through the carb overflow hoses. At least that how KZ650s are set up. Ed

I've got tomorrow morning to pull off the carbs, clean them again, clean up the airbox, change the oil and filter and drain and fill fork oil. This bike is working better every time I take it apart and put it back together.

Thanks,
