Have to run with choke on was created by 1981KZ305
I have a 81' KZ305. I've been thru the carbs and cleaned all of the ports and passages out and I have set the float height properly. My problem is that I have to run the bike with the choke partway on all the time or it runs lean and spits. I have checked for inlet leaks and found none. Could this be a diaphram problem?

sounds like you missed a tiny hole in the pilot jet....you can re-do it and use a strand of copper wire in a dish of carb cleaner and clear all brass orifices...careful that the wire does not kink or bind and get snapped.....that is a clogged idle jet imo.....good luck....when you take it off choke does it die......idle jet imo...

Yea, it wont idle below 2K with the choke off. Oh well, It only takes 10 minutes to get the carbs off and get em apart. Thanks!

did you figure out the problem? I'm having the same issue with these vm28's I just installed... it looks like there's some fuel leakage so I kinda figured there was a vacuum problem....
I have a set of bs34's I might just run until I can get these 28's figured out....

That sounds like a large tuning job on the switch to make it work for your application/riding.

well, the 34's were on there when I got the bike so I wanted to get the 28's that came stock with it, but since these are acting up I'll just keep on using the 34's until I can afford to have them rebuilt. What's the issue?
