Changing Pod Filters
12 Apr 2009 11:27 - 12 Apr 2009 11:57
Had Emgo pod filters on my kz550 and the bike ran great, but switched to XS pods which are a lot larger. Now the bike is bogging down off throttle. It starts and idles ok but when giving it throttle is just bogs and stalls. Have the mix screws at 1.5 turns out.

Could re-adjust side-located mix screws to 1.25 turns out from lightly seated, and test run for effect. Repeat at 1 turn out from lightly seated.
If fitted with pilot mixture screws, go the opposite way, first 1.75, then 2.
If the pods require oil, would assure there're not over-oiled or under-oiled.
Good Luck!

Also, some types of pods sometimes cover some of the ports near the mouth of the carbs. Make sure none are blocked especially if you have CV type carbs. Which 550, by the way?

It's an 82, had pods on it when purchased. Can't see the XS pods blocking anything. I'll adjust the mixture screws (on engine side) between 1 and 3 and see what happens. The carbs have 112.5 Mikuni main jet, 32 pilot and 64 secondary main jet. Needle is has a circlip on the 2nd groove from the bottom

I had Emgo filters but went to a bigger, better construction XS filter. Finally solved the problem bogging down, adusted the screws to 3/4 turns out, but I'm ordering bigger main jets. The XS filters are half the price of K&N.

Ordered them from the local Honda shop, they're available from MC Distributing.
