New to KZ rider, but have been member of the "other" vintage kawie site for some time...

Anyway, I have a 1980 750 LTD (H) with CV34 carbs. I just rebuilt the petcock, and believe it to be working. I also cleaned the carbs 3x already. I used mothers with a q-tip and drill to polish the pressed in seats. I inspected the needles and seats and they look good.

Heres my issue: The #1 carb leaks out the overflow, but not all the time. It originally leaked and I discovered the petcock was shot. I since rebuilt it and it is working. #1 carb still leaked...and only #1. So I switched the needle from #1 with #4. #1 still leaked. So last night I got home and turned the petcock to prime...and #1 didn't leak. I tipped the bike to both sides and rocked it all over, no leak whatsoever. So, I put the petcock to on and started it.

This is where it gets weird. I have an inline fuel filter and it appeared that gas in in sucked down quite a bit, and after sometime, the bike started to act like it wasn't getting enough fuel to idle well. So I turned to petcock to prime, which flooded the fuel filter again, resulting in nice a steady idle. Except then gas started coming out of #1 again. So I got quite angry and walked away for 4 hrs. I came back again and put the petcock to prime, NO LEAK. This tend me to think that there is a vaccuum issue or vibration issue happening here...
Any thoughts for the new guy?

BTW, how many of you guys are members of both sites? I always saw plugs for this site but never joined until today...

Andy

the needles have springs in them if your sure that there is nopitting or grooving in the seats try replacing the needles and that might solve the leaking problem over time the springs in the needles can get weak sometimes doing this will fix the problem also if you use an abrasive polish you can open up the hole in the seat just enough to cause the needle not to sit squarely in it.

If in fact I screwed up the seats, what can I do? They are pressed in, so I can't just replace them, can I?

Also, wouldn't the spring problem also happen if the bike was off and the tank was on prime? it seems that the issue arises when the bike is on prime and running/just ran. on doesn't seem to cause any problems if it is running.

I am almost ashamed to admit this, but I took the carbs apart again tonight and wouldn't you know...there was crud in the #1 seat... how it escaped me the past 3 times I do not know, but I do know that I used alot of carb cleaner and quite a bit of compressed air to clean it out. The leaky float is fixed... but the odd part is that the petcock is not working properly... have you ever heard of a petcock not allowing flow on "on" but working just fine on "prime" and "res"? I took the whole thing apart and inspected everything, and I have no clue why it would work on res and prime but not allow flow on on.

Now that I got this out of the way, the next problem jumped out already. For some reason my #1 header is warm, but not really hot like the other three. I checked the spark by pulling the plug and turning it over while the plug was attached to the cap...had spark (and I already cleaned and gaped it). So I switched it with the #4 plug, same story. The bike idles good and revs good too (I wasn't able to take it for a ride). Any suggestions on this one???

Andy

replace the spark plug it sounds like it has fouled with all the fuel that was being dumped in to it because no 1 was the problem child right.
