Jet size with pod filters was created by lg_rebel
In December I purchased a 79' KZ1000 ST. The previous owner changed to pod filters and increased the main jet size, but I'm not sure how much. He didn't change the idle jets however because he claimed he could not get any at the time. Now the bike runs fine on the high end, but it will not idle at all. I have to continually bump the throttle to keep it running. If I crack open the choke, it will idle just fine. I think I need larger idle jets, but I'm not sure what size. The bike is stock with the original exhaust. Any suggestions as to the idle jet size I need? Thanks in advance.

Wired george may know the jet sizes off the top of his head, but here's a way you could look it up:

go to either bike bandit or babbittsonline.com and use their OEM search function. Look up your year and model and they will have explosion drawings showing the carbs and all avaiable jet sizes.

Have you made any adjustments to the pilot screws?

What is the lowest RPM it will idle at now(if you adjust the idle screw will it idle on its own at 1500RPM...2000?)
