84 GPZ carb ? was created by dulcimerbob
My 84 tries to start cold and then no go . Carb cleaner squirt and it fires warms up and runs great. Starts well hot even after sitting for a couple hours. When I turn the petcock on one carb drips gas from the overflow. A small drop or two. The choke seems to be no help at all. The carbs are newly rebuilt, all new jets, needle and orings and gaskets. inline paper filter. Do they make a purse size carb cleaner for long trips ? Please help.
Thanks.

I´ve had similar problems. Some ideas:

1. Ditch the inline filter. Could cause air lock and check also there are ni kinks in fuel line and it flows downwards nicely.
2. Valve check. Could be one or more valves are not sealing properly.
3. Check battery and coil voltage. Theer should not be too big diff between readings on battery and coils.
4. Coils? Cracked or something?

Just some ideas, maube someone has more good advice.

What type bike is this? I think there was more than one GPz model in 84.

Bob... should have mentioned... look at the replies. See everyone else has their bike year/model and some folks have location? Go into your profile and edit your signature to include this stuff so we don't have to ask about your bike. If I am not mistaken, there was a 550, 750 and 1100 version of the GPz for that year AND mention the carb type... BS34? Tekei? etc.

Found the problem. The inline filter was letting crud pass thru and junked up my newly rebuilt carbs. I will try a motorcycle specific filter and clean the carbs. The filter I used earlier was from a VW low flow and filtration not good. I tested my small engine filter good flow and much better filtering. Thanks for the replies. I hope I've solved the problem. Reassemble today. BTW, it's a 550
