I know that the carburetor spacing on the KZ1000,900,750/4, and 650 is the same. Anyone here know if the 550 also has the same spacing or is it narrower.

Hi Otakar, this is what I measure from centre to centre.
1 to 2 = 70mm
2 to 3 = 91mm
3 to 4 = 70mm

Those are quite a bit narrower than the 650/750/900/1000/1100 units. All books have them listed as 77-93-77, which is somewhere between Kawasaki and Suzuki, but in actuality Kawasaki are 75-96-75. Most people just JAM the Suzuki carb assemblies onto the Kaws, deforming the boots. I think that this is why many times you see people advertise carb assemblies as fitting botht the GS and KZ bikes.

Carb spacing is IDENTICAL for the VM26 assembly used on the GS750/850/1000 and KZ900/1000 - 77-93-77mm. It is also identical for the GS1000/1100 BS34 and KZ/GPz BS34. The GS750/850 carb holders are angled and thus the spacing of the BS32 carbs used on those models is different and while you can force them into KZ carb holders, the KZ carb holders will break fairly soon from the stress. The 550 has completely different spacing and is narrower than the 650/900/1000 spacing.

I measured every one of my 7 sets of extra Kawasaki carbs and they all measure 75-96-75. The GS1150 carbs I bought measure 78-94-78 both sets. I know that the dimensions in the Sudco Catalog say 77-93-77. This is the dimension which is on the Mikuni Smoothies that I have. If I try to force the GS carbs on my KZ I start dammaging my boots. There is visably a large spacing difference. Even if you try to line up the brackets from the GS1150 and the KZ1100 it is obvious.
