Not to get off the track but this is the second time I have heard about 29mm smoothbores having accelerator pumps the first time I saw one with a picture. I wonder how many were made like that. I thought those were problematic and the one I did see I thought it was a photo shopped version trying to make the rest of us confused.Well, i have 2 completely rebuild smoothboresets, 1 with an accelerator pump. Both sets run like hell but have the same problem and that is strange becuase my 28mm Z1R set has not. The pingel petcock is new, has a nice filter and is special for large diameter tubes. Tubes are also new. So my first thought was that it could be a vacuum block in the petrol tank or (WG idea) the advancer. hmm back to my garage
I have a comment for what it is worth. My bike had the same problem until I put a really good filter in it. The kind pingel sells that you can clean out and reuse. The filter I used before copper inside and see through doesn't work, for me anyway, once I put the "expensive" filter on my problems completely went away. Yeah you hammer it and WOT sucking more gas than flows and you hesitate and in that moment the gas fills up the bowls and you go again. PITA The advancer plate might need lubed too even if that is not the problem really good idea to keep it lubricated. I hope you get her sorted out.

My bike is doing the exact same thing. I put an inline filter in and it sounds and feels like it is starving for gas. When I ran it without a filter it ran correct. However without the filter float bowl #1 stuck twice causing gas to trickle out of the pod so I went to the inline filter. The stock petcock angle makes it tough to utilize the reserve side and get a clean flow to the carbs. I am sure many of you have addressed the issue. I would love to see a picture of the best set up...Russ
I have found that some fuel filters have a very small hole in the nipple.i ended up buying a few for my 1327cc motor, with rs34 carbs .i wanted a 3/8 fuel line and filter. when i ordered 1 it had a 3/8" OD but the ID was 1/4".
The point i'm triing to get across is that all filters are created dif. so check the id of the hose barb on it just to be sure.
As for the petcock lever hitting the carbs when u turn it to reserve. i found a cure.I redrilled and tapped the screw hole that holds the lever in place, onto the oposite side. this allows u to install the lever on backwards.now the lever faces the back of the bike for reserve.
I noticed on Pattons pic the petcock is well back of the carbs. for some reason mine was very close. it must be the tank dif on the Z1 vs the KZ.

After desperately seeking for the problem this summer the trouble appears to be the advancer. It looked well and clean from the outside but in a last attempt to find out the problem i decided to remove it for a further inspection. Under the rotor is a very thin washer and it was damaged/krinkeled and the rotor was not able to run freely. I changed it and the problem was immediatly gone.
The carbs are now also running very well, and the bikes stationary is a beautifull steady 900 rpm. Before i found the problem this was not steady at all so this means if the smoothbores are correctly cleaned and synchronized, what i did, it is possible to run smooth stationary . Thanks for al the thinking and the reactions.

Sorry for my english
