It may be an inside joke, and I'm a new guy so go easy. The question I have is in regards to the spelling in the heading of this section. Why is it wrong?

Telling Stein that you don't like his spelling is like trying to take a peek behind the curtain.

If you don't mend your ways you might end up as a pillar of salt!:laugh:

You mean 'carburettor' instead of 'carburetor'?

Carburetor is American spelling, carburettor is Commonwealth (British) spelling.

Stein (aka KZRider) who runs the place is from Norway so the English he (and I, who is from Denmark) learned in school is British English.

My best guess anyway.

carbon + burette -->> carburettor -->> carburetor

carbon refers to hydrocarbon fuels

a burette is a measuring/metering/dispensing device

to carburet is to combine or mix with carbon or hydrocarbons to increase available fuel energy.

A dissenting opinion... :dry:

A carburetor (North American spelling) or carburettor (Commonwealth spelling), is a device that blends air and fuel for an internal combustion engine.

It was invented by Karl Benz before 1885 and patented in 1886.

It is colloquially called a carb (in North America and the United Kingdom) or carby (chiefly in Australia).

The word carburetor comes from the French carbure meaning 'carbide'. To carburete means to combine with carbon. In fuel chemistry, the term has the more specific meaning of increasing the carbon (and therefore energy) content of a fuel by mixing it with a volatile hydrocarbon. :blink:

Cool. :)
