Gas Tank Loose ---- 1980 KZ50 LTD was created by mattsand
The gas tank on my 1980 kz550 ltd is loose at the front. Extremely loose, can move it easily side to side, and can lift it off the frame easily. I'm not really seeing a way to lock in place completely, I see the knobs on the front that the tank moves onto, but it in no way holds tight.
Any comments or suggestions would be very welcome. I've about got the bike ready to run, but I would be far too nervous to try to run it like this.
Thanks for helping the newbie!

According to Kawasaki.com you need the following rubber bits, and they are still available. Take a look at their parts diagram. I’ve shown pricing from Ron Ayers in case Z1E doesn’t have them.
92075-101 Damper, rubber fuel tank (front - you need 2)
$2.54 ea.
92075-295 Damper, rubber fuel tank (rear - you need 1)$2.91 ea.

If the tab on the back is also missing then you cant bolt it to the frame and it will likely slide around some. My tab broke off a few years ago and I stuck it on using PC 7. I dont do welding and even if I did I thik I'd want to be very carefull trying on a gas tank
Can you rig something up here ?
Edit
I probably misunderstood. grommets missing not tab

Am guessing item #16 is the rubber damper at rear of tank under the tab.
The two item #15 are the grommets on both sides that fit onto frame studs and slide into place against the tank when the tank is installed.
See above post by 650ed for Kaw inventory part numbers.

Good Luck!
