My 1992 KZ-1000 P-11 gets horrible gas mileage and goes through oil way too much, Do I need to have the valves adjusted or pistons rings replaced or just a tune up?

I am NOT an engine guy, but can handle most everything else.

I would like to hear from those who have experienced this and what they did (hopefully inexpensivey) to remedy this phenomenon.

Thanks
ROB

if it's using oil all the time it might be needing a top end rebuild if it's using it at start up valve guides and seals might be the problem do a compression check and leakdown test to verify condtion of your motor, oh by the way but i'm sorry i can't help you as far as the expense goes it won't be cheap but it sounds like it will need to be done by the way what is excessive fuel and oil use.

No kind of tune up or valve adjust will affect oil consumption. If it is not leaking out, the only other path is burning it out the tailpipe. That has to be rings or valve seals, or maybe both.

Would sniff-test crankcase oil for any sign of fuel contamination (such as gasoline odor).

Combination of leaking float needle plus blockage in carb overflow circuit can allow fuel intrusion into crankcase (poor mileage) whereby oil is diluted and burned out exhaust (excessive oil consumption).

This potentially engine destroying scenerio may occur while riding.

Good Luck! :)
