Dude!, I think you nailed it!
I cleaned the advancer up as there was some old looking thick grease on it, put some lighter lube in it's place, worked it in a few times, reinstalled the carbs, fired it up and,....NO HANG!
I, also applied some sealant to the new carb holders I had installed previously but, I really don't think there was an issue with them.
Anyway, took it for a ride today as the temps got up to 50 and it's running good!
Thanks a ton,
Sonny
Even with perfect carbs, if fitted with a mechanical advancer for ignition timing (the spring loaded version with weights spread by centrifugal force), sometimes the advancer hangs or sticks momentarily in the advanced position, which may cause delay in returning to lower rpm. In such case, cleaning and lubing the advancer may resolve the matter.

I have been fighting the same RPM "hang" for a very long time. Rebuilt the carbs, did a mechanical sync on the bench, an on-the-bike sync and my KZ1000-A4 would not idle below 1500rpm no matter what I tried. Thanks to this thread I lubed the mechanical advance, re-synch'd and the problems are fixed. Thanks!
I also tried out my new ColorTune and learned a very important lesson on setting air screws for a stock bike like mine. The factory setting of 1 1/8 inch is dead on. My KZ has not run this good in years.
