Sticking floats on my kz 400????? was created by oldkaws4ever
Road the little pooper today for a bit, and was riding good. I did notice earlier today the plugs were black, so i cleaned them off and it ran spot on. Then i left it sit for a few hours, went out to start it, it was a pain to start and it was only hitting on the left cylender. I drained the left carb, and a bunch of flackes of some kind came out in the gas. I couldnt drain the right carb because the drain screw is stripped and it was late........so that will have to wait for day light. So my plan is to completley drain both carbs, turn the gas on and let it flow threw the carbs for a few seconds, hope fully dislodging the crap in them. Then put in new spark plugs.....and hope for the best. And of coarse run some Seafoam through the tank.

I couldnt for the life of me get that right side bowl screw out. Put in new plugs and replaced the plug caps, started it and it ran good. Took it out for a ride and it ran like shit. No power, and if i leaned into the throttle it would spit and pop, but if i slowly leaned into it it would be fine, but it would still spit and pop. I then got some seafoam and put it in, ran a tad better but not really enough to feel. Maby the coil is cutting out when it gets hot? Im going to put one of the dyna coils from my 650, and clean and check the gap on the points. Im really lost on this guy's any ideas?

hey it should be easy to pull the carbs off and give them a good cleaning and when you have them off you can test the flow of gas out of the petcock. if you have a timing light hook it up and see if the plugs are actually firing. if your not getting good flow out of the petcock pull it and check your filter see if it is plugged or collapsed. also try another set of plugs out if all else checks out.

Wow, do i feel like i should be on the short bus.........lol. Bike ran exceptionally well when cold, when it got warm then dropped off onto 1 cylinder. I pulled the right side plug wire and the rpm's stayed the same, then i put a brand new spark plug in the cap, and grounded it out on the fins, and low and behold no damn spark. So i will root through the parts bin and find my other kz 400 coil that i know is good.

Well i couldnt find the kz 400 coil, so i stold the dyna off the 650, since it is in hybernation for the winter, ran alot stronger but still dropped off onto 1 cylender after a bit. I have replaced everything i can think of, coil, points and condennsor, engine to carbs manifolds, air filter, adjusted the valves to spec, checked the timing, cleaned and gapped the points, cleaned the gas cap seal, and the battery has a good charge. So i narrowed the problem down to the carbs. I broke down and bought a set off e-bay that came off of a bike that was running perfect. So if that dont fix my problem, i'm out of ideas.
